Volunteer Program

Individual Volunteers

Our volunteers are an indispensable part of our mission and organization, and we are always looking for competent, engaging individuals with a passion for children's education to join our team!

Kidspace offers 2 types of volunteer opportunities:

Our greatest need is for weekend volunteers to assist with our special events.  Special events occur on average between one to three times per month, and can celebrate everything from dinosaurs to butterflies to wacky art to outer space, and more!  At these events, volunteers assist children with special activity stations, engaging them in various themed arts and crafts, games, science projects and other activities.  To become a special event volunteer, please see the online application information below.

In addition to special event volunteers we are always looking for fun, caring individuals to volunteer with our very popular camp programs.  Kidspace offers 2 weeks of Spring Camp in March, and 7 weeks of Summer Camp from June to August.  Unlike special events, volunteering at camp requires volunteers to work with the same small group of children for several days at a time, and work alongside our counselor team as "Junior Counselors."  Because there is a high demand for camp volunteer positions, an interview is required, followed by a selection process.  To become a camp volunteer, in addition to seeing the online application information below, please send an email with your interest in the camp volunteer program to bapplegate@kidspacemuseum.org.  Include a little about yourself, as well as why you'd like to volunteer with the Kidspace camp program, and why you think you'd be a good fit.

(Currently we do not offer regularly scheduled, general weekly volunteer assignments.  We do, however, occasionally have special projects that arise and require such a schedule.  These needs are communicated to the volunteer database as they arise.)

The following are required of anyone interested in volunteering at Kidspace:

  • You must be at least 15 years old
  • You must complete an online application
  • You must attend a volunteer orientation

Service Groups

If you are the leader of a service group or club, we do have opportunities for your entire group to serve. All participants must be at least 14 years old and must receive the Kidspace new volunteer orientation information from their service representative, as well as all necessary information pertaining to each event they sign up for.  Furthermore, all service group members who sign up through their organization must be responsible for firmly committing to the days and shifts they sign up for.

Service groups are are greatest source of assistance with our weekend special events.  If you would like to register your group to serve you must complete an online application for your group and send a representative to an orientation before your group is eligible to serve.  When completing the online application, please list "Service Group" in the last-name field, and the name of your group in the first-name field.  Please list the most appropriate email address for our ongoing notifications to go to, as well as the name of the service group leader.
