Free Family Nights

441 The first Tuesday of each month at Kidspace Children’s Museum, marks a fun and exciting day. Why? Each month between 4:00 and 8:00 pm on the first Tuesday, the Museum opens its doors at no charge, for all who wish to attend. In an effort to increase access to educational and cultural activities to low-income or disadvantaged children and families, Kidspace proudly hosts these monthly events and opens its arms to the community.

Whether it’s their first visit to the Museum, or if they come for every Free Family Night, guests are encouraged to enjoy the night to its fullest and experience all that the Museum has to offer. Our daily programming and exhibitory are expanded on Free Family Night to include cultural performances and workshops from various cultures. From Chinese calligraphy workshops, and Latin American dances, to Russian folklore, and Native American story-telling, each Free Family Night introduces our staff and guests to new and interesting cultures, histories, and music. Each performance is also accompanied by an additional art project designed to teach museum guests a little bit more about the showcased culture of the evening.

442 Throughout the years, Free Family Night has gained quite a bit of momentum, and in 2011 nearly 8,000 guests took part and enjoyed in the festivities. Free Family Night would not be possible without the generous contributions from the following organizations: The Michael J. Connell Foundation, ScholarShare, TIAA-CREF, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, the Pasadena Arts & Cultural Commission, and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division.  We are so grateful to each of our partners, and without their support we would not be able to offer free admission to our guests, host cultural performers, or provide the supplies for the activities.

Join us for the next Free Family Night on July 3, 2012.  Theatre 360 will be performing musical dances and songs from their production of “The Boyfriend.”  If you are interested in supporting Free Family Night, or if your company is interested in sponsoring one of the evenings, please contact us at development@kidspacemusuem.org.
