ALERT: Adults must wear socks in ECLC. This is to ensure the safety of our children and cleanliness of the room. While children will not be required to wear socks in the space, if guests forget their socks, adults with barefeet will have the option of purchasing socks for $2 or disposable booties for $.50 from the Busy Bee Learning Store.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation!

S. Mark Taper Foundation Early Childhood Learning Center: This space is designed to inspire wonder, stimulate exploration and prompt interaction between children and their adults. Inspired by nature, this space will provide a variety of experiences through interactive exhibits geared towards children from birth to age three. Crawlers and early walkers can enjoy the tactile nature of the Shiny Stream, exploring different surfaces, climbing and sliding. Families can snuggle up for a story in the Nuzzle Nests, or explore different activities at the Tinker Tables. The Twisty Tunnels can move all around to create walls and tunnels for children to explore, and the Wonder Woods provides objects of all shapes and sizes to stack, sort and play. Overhead, the Shapes and Shadows mobile moves and sways, attracting interest from the smallest of guests. We welcome our youngest visitors and their adults to come and play in the new space designed just for them!

What to expect
  • This is a no-shoe area, but adults must wear socks. Cubbies are provided for shoes and small bags in the entry area of the room.
  • If you forget your socks, disposable booties can be provided by staff or you can buy $2 socks in the Busy Bee Learning Store.
  • Please enjoy your drinks and snacks outside as there is no food or drinks allowed inside.
  • Be prepared to play and interact with your little one - children must always be with an adult.
  • Strollers must be left outside. Valuables should never be left unattended.
  • Is everyone in your party feeling well, including your little one? Read Kidspace's Health & Safety Statement.
  • This space is for our youngest guests aged 3 and under. Please plan ahead if you have older siblings visiting Kidspace with you. We recommend a second adult be available to enjoy other areas of the museum with them as you and your little one enjoy the S. Mark Taper Early Childhood Center. If this is not an option older siblings may attend the Early Childhood room with their 3 and under siblings provided they respect the rules and are mindful of this special space.  Please note that Kidspace reserves the right to ask any guest to exit the museum at any time for safety or behavior issues.

ECLC Activities & Programs

Music Time

(Daily 12:15 and 3:15pm)

Sing, dance, and play instruments with a Kidspace Educator as we make music together! Music making can be a dynamic social experience for early learners, and is also a conduit to language and literacy development and math and science skills. Music time offers children and their adults the opportunity to socialize with other children, hear and create new sounds of music, and explore their body movement through dance.

Wonder Box Exploration

(Daily at 2:15pm)

Explore natural objects through the senses with a Kidspace Educator!  Sort shells and pinecones, explore colors, experience textures and listen for different sounds in this sensory exploration.

Story Time

(Daily 11:15am and 4:15pm)

Snuggle up with your child for story time as a Kidspace Educator reads stories both familiar and new.  Research has shown that the single most important thing that a parent can do to help their children acquire language, prepare their child for school, and instill a love of learning for their child is to read to them.  Bilingual story time is also offered Wednesday mornings.
