Water and Fog and Lights…Oh, My!

"Kidspace is where my son and I often spend our Wednesday afternoons. His favorite thing is water play, so bringing back the fountains would thrill him!" Joellyn shared this comment when she made a Bring Back the Splash! gift online.

For those who have experienced the magic of the Splash Dance Fountains, you know that children are delighted by the sporadic spouts of water, fog, and lights that make this interactive sensory experience so unique.  This water feature, located in the courtyard, has delighted guests for 12 years.  Unfortunately, an equipment failure in 2016 caused irreparable damage to the complex fountain system.  All of the underground equipment, some of which is custom made, needs to be replaced.

Kidspace launched Bring Back the Splash! to raise awareness of its FUNdraising campaign to fix the fountains. "Water play is fun and important for a child's development. It enhances their physical, cognitive, and social skills.  We want to bring this exhibit back this fall," says Kidspace CEO Michael Shanklin.

The community has received a series of videos and photos via email, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter that have included children, families, and museum educators.  The first "Breaking News" video featured a child reporter and children picketing in the courtyard.   The recent "Splash Mob" was streamed live on Facebook.   If you aren't in the loop, be sure to visit Kidspace's website or follow the museum's social media channels for campaign highlights and updates.

It will cost over $150,000 to reopen this much-loved water feature.  Kidspace is thankful for the  GGE Foundation Challenge Grant, which will match every donation - dollar for dollar.  This means the museum needs to raise half of this amount.  In addition to seeking foundation and corporate support for this effort, Kidspace is calling on the community to help raise at least $25,000 by August 31st.  Every DROP counts!

"Many families have fond memories of splashing in these fountains.  My hope is that this fun Bring Back the Splash! campaign will inspire everyone in the community to make a gift,"  says Kidspace Chief Development Officer Christine Franke.

THANK YOU to everyone who has already made a gift. Or you can DONATE TODAY!

Remember, supporters who give $100 or more will be invited to a special after hours Splash Dance Fountains reopening celebration.  Note: our online donation page provides an opportunity to schedule payments.
